I CAN DANCE COMPETITION ELIGIBILITY AND AGE REQUIREMENTS

“I CAN DANCE COMPETITION” is open to dancers from all countries, ages 4 years old onwards.

The competition is divided into Amateur and Professional.

Solos: Based on your age as of 1st January of the year of the competition.

Ensemble: Based on the age of the oldest member of the group will determine the group ‘s age category

Open to dancers who pursue dance as a passion and not as their primary source of income. This is perfect for those who want to showcase their talent, receive constructive feedback, and share the joy of dance.

PROFESSIONAL COMPETITION AGE CATEGORY

Tailored for dancers who earn a significant portion of their income through dance. A platform for seasoned professionals to demonstrate their artistry and compete at a high level.

COMPETITION FORMAT FOR AMATEUR AND PROFESSIONAL

AUDITIONS/MASTERCLASS

1st Payment for Entry Fee includes auditions on stage and Masterclasses. (Please note Acrobatics, National Dance, Social Dance do not include masterclasses)

SEMI-FINALS

2nd Payment for Entry Fee includes performance on stage.

FINALS

3RD Payment for Entry Fee includes performance on stage.

The 1st round of auditions will be held on stage in a competition format and every participant would need to attend masterclasses for the judge to assess participants’ foundation and technique ability. (Approximately top 80 percent of the participants for audition will proceed to the semi-finals)

The semi-finals will be held on stage in a competition format. (Approximately top 50 percent of the participants for semi-finals will proceed to the finals)

* Please note that we do not have masterclasses for National Dance, Social Dance and Acrobatic.

COMPETITION PROCEDURE FOR AMATEUR AND PROFESSIONALS

1.Competitor must choose the music from our approved list Except for ballet variations and  prepare his/her own-recorded music files for the competition.


2. Competitors will receive the Dropboxlink to Upload your music prior to the Competition.


3. The music for the competition must be recorded separately with the title as WAV or MP3 file. So, each file should contain only music. 


4. The participant is responsible for the sound quality of his/her own music file. I CAN DANCE is NOT responsible for the quality of music.


5. Each title of music file should contain the name of the participant, the title of the music.


6. A competitor should bring, in case, additional music file or for his/her during competition.

BALLET SOLOS/ENSEMBLE/TROUPES FOR AMATEUR

Under 6 years

Soft Ballet shoes only for this division – Pointe Shoes are not Permitted.

Under 8 years

Soft Ballet shoes only for this division – Pointe Shoes are not Permitted.

Under 10 years

Soft Ballet shoes only for this division – Pointe Shoes are not Permitted.

Under 12 years

Soft Ballet shoes only for this division – Pointe Shoes are not Permitted.

Under 14 years

You can have the option to wear Soft Ballet shoes or Pointe Shoes in this Division for all Female Participants.

Open Age 15 years and above

A competitor who surpasses the required time limit will receive a scoring penalty OR disqualification from the competition, depending upon the decision of the “I CAN DANCE”, judging panel.

COMPETITION JUDGING AND AWARDS FOR AMATEUR AND PROFESSIONAL

Fair and Unbiased Judging:

To maintain the integrity and fairness of the competition, we have taken meticulous steps to ensure that Amateur and Professional participants are judged separately. This distinction guarantees that each dancer is evaluated on equal footing, considering their respective backgrounds and goals.

The “I CAN DANCE” judging panel will judge all the Candidates in Semi Final and Final rounds.  Decisions of the jury will be final and without appeal.

THE MARKING SCHEME FOR AMATEUR AND PROFESSIONAL

➢ Score 90 or above: Gold Award

➢ Score 79-89: Silver Award

➢ Score 70- 78: Bronze Award

➢ Score 69 or below: Encouragement Award

MUSIC AND CHOREOGRAPHY COPYRIGHTS

Music Selection and Copyright Compliance:

As a reminder, all music chosen for the competition must be selected from the music links provided on our website. This requirement is in place to ensure strict adherence to copyright compliance, protecting the rights of artists and creators.

 

We will be constantly uploading new music options as we receive approvals from different entities, offering you an ever-expanding selection of tracks to enhance your performances.

 EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE FOR COMPETITORS TO USE THEIR OWN CHOICE OF MUSIC THAT  IS NOT ON OUR PRE APPROVED MUSIC LIST. THEY WILL BE JUDGED BASED ON THEIR CHOICE OF MUSIC DURING THE LIVE AUDITIONS AND LIVE SEMI FINALS N FINALS. WOULD LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT THAT DURING STREAMING OF I CAN DANCE ON MEDIACORP MEWATCH PARTICIPANTS ORIGINAL MUSIC WILL BE SUBSTITUTED WITH OUR LIST OF PRE APPROVED MUSIC

Competitors must furnish their own musical material with theatrical acoustic standards.

 

Competitor must choose the music from our approved list Except for ballet variations.

 

Music of every dance piece (entry) should be submitted in mp3 format recorded individually by Dropbox one month before the start of competition; otherwise the contestant(s) Will be disqualified, Music of dance submitted on the competition day Will not be accepted. The Organizer will use the music submitted during the period mentioned above only.

 

Competitors must deal with royalty issues for their music and choreography. “I CAN DANCE” will not be responsible for any royalty disputes over music or choreography. Competitors must compensate for the damages to “I CAN DANCE” caused by royalty issues, if there are any.

 

All music must be age appropriate and free of any apparent profanity or vulgar language. Disqualification may occur if it is deemed the music is of this nature. 

ATTIRE OR COSTUME COPYRIGHT COMPLIANCE

We would like to emphasize the importance of attire and costume copyright compliance.

Dancers should not wear attire or costumes that display brand names, copyrighted characters (e.g. Disney, Marvel, etc.) or any other intellectual property for which we do not have explicit permission.

Why Copyright Compliance Matters:

Wearing attire or costumes that feature copyrighted brand names or characters can pose significant legal issues, including copyright infringement. To protect the rights of intellectual property owners and to ensure the uninterrupted streaming of our event on MEWATCH we must enforce strict copyright compliance.

There is an EXCEPTION if the Brand Name is a sponsor of “I CAN DANCE” 

Guidelines for Attire and Costumes:

Original Creations: We encourage dancers to wear attire and costumes that are original creations. If in doubt about the legality of your costume, we advise consulting with the “I CAN DANCE” production team. 

Generic or Non-Copyrighted: Opt for attire or costumes that do not infringe upon copyrighted material. Generic or non-copyrighted designs are always a safe choice.

MEDIA AND RECORDINGS

“I CAN DANCE” owns exclusive rights to the competition and related activities, including press interviews, recordings of contestants of their daily routine example rehearsals, school, home all audio and video recordings during the competition, master classes, rehearsals, backstage, lobby, live broadcasting, reporting, photographs, production and distribution of presswork and audio-visual products created during the competition, opening ceremony and galas. Participants and their parents and/or legal guardians give their express permission for “I CAN DANCE” to make any photo/video recordings at any time. By participating in “I CAN DANCE” , participants and their parents or legal guardians give “I CAN DANCE” their express permission to use any such photo/video recordings including those containing their name for promotional purposes (including any uses in print, video, online, or in social media).

Without the written approval of “I CAN DANCE”, none of the following shall be conducted by any person.

 

“I CAN DANCE”, and any third party authorized by “I CAN DANCE”, are entitled to arrange for competitors to attend activities like photo sessions, interviews, broadcasting, audio and video recordings.

 

Competitors release to “I CAN DANCE”, and any third party authorized by “I CAN DANCE”, the following rights during the competition and activities described in (2) as above:

a.Live broadcasting and public transmitting

Audio and video recording
c. Reproduction and distribution of audio-visual products
d. Transmitting through internet
e. “I CAN DANCE”, warrants that no competitors’ images will be distorted or misused.

Competitors and their parents/guardian’s consent to “I CAN DANCE”,  and any third party authorized by “I CAN DANCE”,  in using their name, portrait, photos, voices and resumes in the following conditions and on the following products:

a.Introduction, presentation and promotion of the competition and related activities.

b.During production, recording, publishing, promotion and distribution of presswork and audiovisual products of the competition and related activities.

 

All the above rights mentioned in (3) and (4), which competitors and their parents/guardians release to “I CAN DANCE”, free of any charge, are permanent and cannot be changed or limited by location and time.

 

In the case that competitors use music, choreography, and stage design copyrighted by any third, or provide photos and resumes to “I CAN DANCE”, which belong to any third party, competitors must obtain a thorough and complete written authorization from the royalty owner, and provide it to “I CAN DANCE”, Competitors warrant that such authorization will not only grant them the right to use these works during their competition, but also ensure that rights granted to “I CAN DANCE”, or any third party authorized by “I CAN DANCE”,  in (3) and (4) are not in violations of rights against the royalty owner. Otherwise, competitors must compensate “I CAN DANCE”, for any damage caused by compromising their warrants.

 

During the competition, competitors must not accept any interview about the competition by any news agency, organization or individual not authorized by “I CAN DANCE”, or release to any third party any information about the competition not publicly announced by “I CAN DANCE”, “I CAN DANCE”,  reserves the right to disqualify competitors who violate this rule.

INSURANCE AND SECURITY

“I CAN DANCE”, does not take responsibility for any previous injuries, chronic health conditions or stolen properties. Competitors must purchase their own insurances for accidents, disease and personal property.

 

No one is allowed to take photos or make video recordings during the live stream unless authorized by “I CAN DANCE”,

CONSEQUENCES OF NON-COMPLIANCE

Dancers who fail to comply with these guidelines by wearing non-compliant attire or costumes will be regrettably removed from the streaming broadcast on MEWATCH. This action is taken to prevent any potential legal disputes.

RESOLUTION

“I CAN DANCE”, and jury have rights to make modifications to competition rules.

Decisions of the jury will be final and without appeal.

“I CAN DANCE”, reserves the right to change the schedule of competition in case of emergency. Announcements of new schedule will be made through the official Facebook or website.

All competitors must agree and follow all contents of this regulation when they sign up for “I CAN DANCE “Competition.

Resolution to any arguments should be based on this regulation, “I CAN DANCE”, holds the right of final interpretation of this regulation.

To the best of our ability, we will endeavour to feature all participants on mewatch.
